Time & Location

Sep 22, 2019, 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Silver Room Pop-Up, 1302 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60622, USA

About the Event

The open-mic series serves as a foundation in building a connected community of sisterhood beginning amongst women all over Chicago, to spread throughout the nation and eventually have presence on a global scale. In fighting against the barriers we face, it is imperative that we support each other in strength and resilience. By sharing our stories through monologues, poems, songs, dance, and other expressive forms of art, we, as women, take claim to our greatness and empower one another to never limit ourselves or our ambitions.

The doors will open at 5:00 PM. This first 30-minutes will serve as time for women to arrive, engage in the live painting, vendor stations, and connections. At 5:30 PM the Open Mic show will begin, and will consist of 6-8 featured performers.

WALK-IN PERFORMERS WELCOME and must register. Sign-up for walk-ins begins at 5:00 PM. We guarantee the first 5 sign-ups will perform, so be on time to sign-up!

This is a night to come and enjoy. Laugh, cry, vibe and embrace all that WE have to offer!

Why This Event?

A quote reads, “It takes women years to unlearn all that society has taught us to be sorry for.” This is an understanding only women have and one that is rarely addressed in society. We are still running face-first into glass barriers due to the the false truths we are told of equality—workplace, home, and the hierarchy of our nation—while left apologizing for all of it. History has advised that we be seen and not heard, smart but not a “know-it-all”, strong but only to a portion of our male peers, and though a lot has changed for the better, there lingers an air of unspoken expectation regarding where it is a woman “belongs”. So how does this connect to an open mic? We can speak and share without bounds in a space full of women to support our stories. We are celebrating our voices and rising above our barriers.
